Portability by Design
Portability isn't an afterthought — it's a core design principle. You can retrieve your data at any time, in standard, reusable formats, with no need to ask for our permission.
The right to portability is guaranteed by the GDPR (Article 20): you can receive the data you've entrusted to us in a structured, commonly used format. Octopussian applies the same principle with a no lock-in commitment: no data held hostage, no closed proprietary formats.
What you can export, and in what format
Passwords
CSV format, generated directly in your browser. Available immediately, self-service.
Sensitive file: protect it and delete it after reimporting it elsewhere.
If a team member exports passwords that were shared with them, the account owner is notified by email.
Contacts
vCard format (.vcf), compatible with most address books and email clients. Available immediately.
Calendar
iCal format (.ics), reimportable into any standard calendar app. Available immediately.
Tasks
Since the content is complex and structured, we provide an export in XML format. Available immediately.
Knowledge base
Since the content is complex and structured, we provide an export in XML format. Available immediately.
Drive
Archive reconstructed as-is, with the original folder and file structure. Generated on request, within approximately 3 business days.
At Account Closure
When you leave Octopussian, your active data is retained for 15 days, then deleted from our systems — unless you request immediate deletion.
Backups follow a 3-day rotation cycle. Since backups are global, they are not deleted early on a per-account basis: your data will be removed once that rotation completes. Only data we are legally required to retain — such as billing records — remains after that point.
Make sure to export anything you need before closing your account. To learn more about how your data is hosted and protected, visit the Security & Sovereignty page.
